Child and Youth Dental

We provide comprehensive assessment, individual oral health plans and general preventive, restorative and emergency treatment for children and young people in the ACT.

We also offer dental treatments such as orthodontic appliances and dentures to children and young people who are covered by a current Centrelink Concession card. Separate fees apply for these services.

Who can use the service?

Our dental services are available to:

  • all children under 5 who live in the ACT
  • all children between 5 and 14 years who live or attend school in the ACT
  • young people living or attending school in the ACT under the age of 18 who are covered by a current Centrelink Concession card.

Cost

Standard fees apply for our services:

  • children aged 5 to 14 – $63.00 per child per “Course of Care”
  • children under 5 years (who require treatment) – $63.00 per child per “Course of Care”
Child Dental Benefits Scheme (CDBS)

The CDBS is a government initiative that provides access to benefits for basic dental treatment in children. This includes dental check-ups, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings and extractions.

Benefits are available to children who are eligible for Medicare and part of a family who receive Family Tax Benefit Part A or another Australian Government payment. Total benefit entitlement is capped at $1,000 per child over a 2 calendar year period. <check changes to policy>

Please access your Medicare online account through MyGov to confirm your child’s eligibility and balance amount. You can also contact the Medicare general enquiries line on 13 20 11.

Adult Dental

We provide various dental treatments for ACT residents over the age of 18, including general restorative, denture and emergency dental services. Adult dental services are only available to the primary holder of a current ACT Centrelink issued Pension Concession or Healthcare card.

Please note: general restorative treatment has a waiting list—please contact the Community Health Intake link on 02 6207 9977 to register your name on the waiting list.

Cost

We charge a maximum co-payment of $300 for restorative treatment in any calendar year. This excludes molar endodontics, general anaesthetic and dentures.

Denture services

We provide a range of denture services, including denture repairs, denture relines and adjustments. We also make both partial and complete new dentures.

A waitlist applies for new dentures. Denture repairs are handled in the same way as emergency sessions.

For urgent repairs, please call the Community Health Intake line on 02 6207 9977. We can assess you over the phone and offer you an appointment based on the urgency of your needs.

Non-urgent medical needs are placed on a waiting list.

Our denture services are available to all ACT residents over the age of 18 who hold a Centrelink Concession card, including a Healthcare or Pension Concession card. You must also be eligible to receive treatment.

Cost

We charge a minimum of $41.00 for the course of your treatment. There is no annual cap and denture client contributions are not included in the $300 restorative treatment cap.

Emergency Dental

We offer emergency dental services from Monday to Friday for all people who have access to the Community Health’s dental services and require urgent dental treatment.

Please call Community Health Intake on 02 6207 9977. We can assess you over the phone and offer you an appointment based on the urgency of your needs. Non-urgent medical needs are placed on a waiting list.

Limited after-hours services are also available at the Phillip Dental Clinic on Saturday mornings. Please contact 02 6205 1653 for weekend and public holiday emergency care.

Who can use this service?

Our emergency dental services are available to:

  • children under 14 years who attend school or reside in the ACT
  • ACT residents aged 14 to 17 who hold a Centrelink Concession card
  • ACT residents aged 18 and over who are primary card holders
  • Interstate Centrelink Concession card holders and children under 14 who are visiting the ACT for a short period who are triaged as an E or P1
