About this service

School Youth Nurse Program

The School Youth Health Nurse Program promotes positive health outcomes for young people and their families.

We support ACT Government high school communities to use a whole-of-school approach to health and social issues that young people and their families are facing. Our goal is to help your young people to stay safe and healthy as they become adults.

Healthcare Access At School (HAAS)

Healthcare Access At School supports children with complex or invasive health care needs to attend school safely.

We provide nurse-led care and provide a link between parents and the school. This includes making sure school staff understand the child’s health care needs and providing ongoing support to the school and family.

Who we care for

Our Healthcare Access At School program cares for children at ACT Public Schools with complex or invasive health care needs.

How to access this service

Your child’s school or health professional can refer you to the Healthcare Access At School program. We also welcome referrals from families.

What to expect

After we receive your referral, we will be in touch to arrange a meeting. This can be at your home, a community health centre or your workplace.

We will discuss with you your child’s health needs during the school day and work with you, your child and your child’s health team to create a care plan that is safe for school.

We will train the school-based Healthcare Access At School workers at your child’s school and work with them as they learn how to care for your child.

Where we’re located

The Healthcare Access At School service is available in all ACT Public Schools.
