Our Prosthetic Orthotic Service helps people with mobility issues caused by amputation or problems with their muscles, bones or nervous system.

About this service

We assess you and work with you to understand your mobility issues, needs and goals.

We design, make and fit the most appropriate device to help you reach your goals.

We teach you how to use and care for your device and we offer repair and maintenance services.

What are Prosthetics and Orthotics?

A Prosthetic is a device made for you to replace a missing body part. It is also known as a prosthesis or an artificial limb.

An Orthotic is a device made for you to help support, assist and protect a part of the body that is weak or injured. It is also known as an orthosis, splint, calliper, insert or brace.

We also offer medical grade footwear which help when you have a foot condition that stops you from wearing regular shoes.

Our services are available to people of all ages from the ACT and surrounding NSW region.

You need to be eligible for funding support to access our service. Some of the funding models we work with include:

  • Department of Veteran’s Affairs (DVA)
  • Compensation (Work / Accident)
  • ACT Equipment Scheme (ACTES)

  • Self-funded.

Your clinician can help you work out if you’re eligible for any funding support.

We have more information about using your NDIS plan to access this service.

How to access this service

New patients

Your GP or allied health care provider will organise a referral for you to access this service.

Returning patients

You can self-refer by calling the Village Creek Centre on (02) 5124 1057 between 8:30am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

What to expect

Once we receive your referral, one of our clinicians will determine the urgency to see you. This process is known as ‘triage’. We will then either book your appointment or place you on a waiting list depending on the level of urgency.

We will write to you and your referrer to let you know that you have been placed on a waiting list for an outpatient appointment.

We will contact you once an appointment becomes available.

At your first appointment we will work with you to:

  • assess your needs and goals
  • develop a treatment plan
  • coordinate any necessary funding support.

We’ll arrange ongoing appointments once funding is confirmed.

What to bring to your appointment

  • Medicare card
  • Any letters or correspondence from your GP
  • Health Care Card and/or concession card (if you have one)
  • Private health insurance card (if applicable/if you want to use it)
