The annual Canberra Health Annual Research Meeting (CHARM) is the premier meeting for the communication and translation of health-related research in the ACT.

Communicating research with our stakeholders is essential to successful research translation.  CHARM plays an important role in strengthening interdisciplinary research by providing opportunities for collaboration and networking. The meeting showcases the far-reaching impact that health research in the ACT has on the advancement of healthcare and service delivery practices demonstrating benefits to society, culture, our environment and the economy.

The 2021 Canberra Health Annual Research Meeting (CHARM) took place as an online event from 27-30 July 2021. The enhanced flexibility of holding the conference in a virtual format allowed the registration of more than 960 participants and speakers.

The three and a half day event featured expert presentations from international and national speakers, local clinicians and scientists, panel discussions, workshops and an online poster exhibition. Throughout the meeting, participants and invited speakers sought to explore how interdisciplinary research can contribute to a sustainable health system through discovery and collaboration.

CHARM 2021 keynote speakers included Dr Jordan Nguyen (A human’s guide to the future and removing barriers to disability), Dr Andy Cope (Rising stronger: Using positive psychology to build resilience), Professor Kim Usher (Psychosocial impact of emergencies and disasters) and Associate Professor Barbara Mintzes (Bias in clinical trials research).
