From Monday 7 June, one lane of Hospital Road from the southern end of the hospital campus will re-open to traffic, from the Southern Multi-Storey Car Park heading north towards Canberra Hospital Main Entry.

To drive to Canberra Hospital Main Entry, visitors will need to head to the southern end of the campus (the Hindmarsh Drive end) via Palmer Street or Yamba Drive to get to Bateson Road, which takes you onto the one way section of Hospital Road.

Signage to direct traffic and pedestrians will be in place, with traffic controllers on hand to assist. This one-way lane heading north is the only way for traffic to access Canberra Hospital Main Entry from Hospital Road.

To leave, drivers need to continue on Hospital Road towards Gilmore Crescent.

Patient drop offs

To drive to the patient drop off area at Canberra Hospital Main Entry, all traffic needs to enter Hospital Road from the southern end of the campus (the Hindmarsh Drive end), at Bateson Road which comes off Palmer Street or Yamba Drive.

You can no longer drive from Gilmore Crescent to Canberra Hospital’s Main Entry and the drop off area there. Access to Main Entry is now via Palmer Street or Yamba Drive to Bateson Road, and then on to Hospital Road.

Taxis and the Canberra Hospital Courtesy Bus

The two Courtesy Bus Stops and the taxi ranks along Hospital Road (outside Canberra Hospital Main Entry and Building 15) will be fully operational.

Access to the National Capital Private Hospital and the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children

You can still access the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children and the National Capital Private Hospital and its car park from either Yamba Drive or Gilmore Crescent.
