Specialised Wheelchair and Posture Seating Service

The Specialised Wheelchair and Posture Seating (SWAPS) Service is a tertiary level consultancy service. We provide specialised clinical support and advice to primary therapists who work with clients that have complex wheelchair or seating needs.

Our SWAPS therapists provide the following services:

  • comprehensive assessment of a client’s physical and postural needs
  • information and advice about equipment needs and options
  • assistance with the trial and review of equipment
  • assistance with the prescription of wheelchair and seating equipment or systems
  • assistance to identify and coordinate modification and customisation of equipment with other services including the Clinical Technology Workshop

Referrals for SWAPS should be made through a client’s primary treating therapist via the CHI team.

SWAPS is a part of the Clinical Technology Services which provide services to the ACT community and surrounding NSW region from the Village Creek campus.

If you are eligible for NDIS funding our services need to be included in your plan. All Clinical Technology Services are provided to ACT residents as ‘in-kind’ NDIS services.  All Clinical Technology Services can provide information and/or recommendations to assist in the planning process if required.

Clients not eligible for NDIS funding can access our services as a public or privately funded client. We can help you identify your eligibility for the funding of services or equipment through alternate funding sources.

For more information, please contact us on 02 6207 0658 between 8:30am and 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. You can also contact the Community Health Intake (CHI) on 02 5124 9977, by fax on 02 5124 2611 or by email on CHIIntake@act.gov.au.
