Patient Liaison

There are many people you can turn to for help and information during your stay in hospital, including liaison officers and your medical and nursing staff.

Aboriginal Liaison Office

The Aboriginal Liaison Office helps Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from the ACT and regional NSW access mainstream healthcare services. The office provides emotional, social and cultural support to patients and their families, patient and family liaison and hospital service information.

Aboriginal Liaison Officers are available Monday to Friday during business hours. Please contact the office on 02 6244 2316 for more information.

We encourage patients and carers to provide us with feedback to help improve our service. You can provide feedback in person, over the phone, by email or by mail.

Spiritual support services

We respect and recognise your religious traditions or belief system through pastoral care services and other various resources that support your personal and spiritual wellbeing.

Our pastoral care practitioners include staff and trained volunteers who come from a variety of belief groups and religious backgrounds. They are available in person or over the phone during work hours. Designated representatives are on call 24 hours a day.

We also have a ‘General Team’ who relate to people that don’t identify with a specific religion but appreciate visits or are seeking spiritual support.

Bedside communion is available on request.

Our multifaith sacred space is located at Building 2, Level 2 and caters to private prayer and individual or group meditation. It’s also used as a Christian Chapel, Jewish Temple and for daily Muslim prayers. You can access a schedule of weekly worship services on the notice board outside the centre.

Please contact Spiritual Support Services on 02 6244 3849 for more information.

Social work

Being in hospital can be a cause of stress for you and family.

If you are experiencing anxiety, grief and reactions to trauma or are having difficulties with your hospitalisation, relationships, income, accommodation or discharge arrangements, we encourage you to speak with our ward staff. They can help organise a meeting with a social worker.

Social workers are also available to paediatric inpatients and outpatients.

This is a free service.

Please contact the social work team on 02 6244 2316 during business hours for more information.

For information on Pregnancy and Maternity social work services, please see the Women, Youth and Children section.
