Chief Health Officer's Report 2020

The ACT Chief Health Officer (CHO) is required to report biennially to provide information about the health and wellbeing of the ACT population. This data provides a wealth of information to inform government and our community by identifying health trends and emerging issues.

2020 Report

The ACT Chief Health Officer (CHO) Report 2020 was released in May of 2021.

The CHO Report provides information about the health and wellbeing of the ACT population. The report also provides information about the challenges that we face and the potential opportunities for improvements.

Since 2016, the HealthStats ACT webpage has supported a published report. HealthStats ACT provides up-to-date population health statistics as indicators and short reports, on a wide range of health topics.

HealthStats ACT provides contemporary health statistics and regular information for the community, and meets the CHO’s requirements for reporting on the health of the ACT population, under Section 10 of the Public Health Act 1997.

In recognising the value in highlighting key statistics and trends, in addition to HealthStats ACT, the Chief Health Officer has developed four short supporting documents to summarise highlights from the latest reporting periods. The four reports – Healthy City, Healthy Minds, Healthy Lifestyles and Healthy People – acknowledge the importance that our local environments and changing lifestyles have on the health and wellbeing of our community. These can be found below.

Note: A correction has been made to the proportion of Year 6 students who are overweight or obese on p3 of the Healthy Lifestyle chapter (Dec 2021).
