South East Regional Hospital

South East Regional Hospital (SERH) is a 99-bed rural hospital located in the Bega Valley. It’s approximately 2.5 hours from Canberra. Junior Medical Officers (JMOs) are offered accommodation near the hospital for the duration of their term.  Rotations available at the hospital include general medicine and general surgery.

Rotations available at the hospital include general medicine and general surgery.

Each rotation gives you access to case presentations, teaching sessions, journal clubs, clinical review meetings and grand rounds.

General Medicine
  • unit is run by a general physician, general practitioners and general practice registrars
  • ability to manage patients in a high dependency unit
  • direct consultation with physicians
  • exposure to aboriginal health
  • exposure to procedures such as pleural aspirates, abdominal paracentesis, elective cardio-version, non-invasive ventilation and ECG stress tests
  • exposure to bronchoscopies
General Surgery
  • surgical unit consists of 3 general surgeons, a visiting urologist and 2 orthopaedic surgeons
  • exposure to breast, bowel and thyroid surgery and skin lesions
  • exposure to orthopaedics, including elective and trauma services
  • access to high dependency unit beds
