Prevocational training

The Canberra Hospital is the primary hospital for the ACT. It’s possible for you to be seconded to other hospitals during your time in a prevocational Junior Medical Officer (JMO) position. These hospitals include South East Regional Hospital (SERH) in Bega, Calvary Public Hospital and Goulburn Base Hospital.

The ACT Network Committee is responsible for coordinating education and training across all the facilities in the Network.

Interns

Internships can be a challenging transition for many new doctors. We make every effort to ensure you feel supported and prepared in the hospital.

Our internships equip you with the necessary clinical skills to help you function as a mature, competent and knowledgeable Resident Medical Officer (RMO).

Your internship begins with a comprehensive 2-week Orientation Program. This is followed by weekly mandatory Junior Medical Officer (JMO) teaching sessions.

We provide you with specific terms and rotations to ensure you meet the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) criteria for full unconditional registration. This includes a core medical term, a core surgical term, a core emergency term and a non-core term. These rotations may include secondments to Calvary Public Hospital, Goulburn Base Hospital and South East Regional Hospital (SERH). Interns are only allocated to CRMEC accredited terms.

The Director of Prevocational Education and Training is available to address your professional development queries. This includes career advice if required.

Please contact the Canberra Health Services Medical Officer Support Unit on 02 5124 2779 or email tchmosu@act.gov.au for more information.

Resident Medical Officers

A wide range of rotations are available for Resident Medical Officers at the Canberra Hospital, Calvary Public Hospital, South East Regional Hospital and Goulburn Base Hospital.

Special efforts are made to ensure you have access to rotations that contribute to the accreditation terms of your prospective college.

Please see our current vacancies to make the move.

Registrars

Various rotations are available for Registrars at the Canberra Hospital, Calvary Public Hospital, South East Regional Hospital and Goulburn Base Hospital.

Please see our current vacancies to make the move.
