Healthy children and young people

ACT Health provides a range of preventive health programs that aim to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people in various settings across the ACT, including Early Childhood, Preschool and Primary and High school.

Our dedicated Health Improvement Branch delivers these Initiatives with funding from the ACT Government.

Early Childhood and Preschool

Kids at Play Active Play

Kids at Play Active Play (KAPAP) is a free ACT Government program that offers training and resources for Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) services in the ACT. The training is designed to help early childhood educators feel confident to promote active play. It also teaches Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) to children aged 3 to 5.

Ride or Walk to School

The Ride or Walk to School program is a free ACT Government service delivered by the Physical Activity Foundation. The program aims to build the capacity of schools to actively support and encourage their students to ride or walk to school.

Fresh Tastes: Healthy Food at School

Fresh Tastes is a free ACT Government service that supports a healthy food and drink environment at primary schools across the ACT. It’s an initiative of ACT Health in partnership with the ACT Education Directorate and supported by the Catholic Education Office and the Association of Independent Schools of the ACT.

It’s Your Move (IYM)

IYM is a free program for high school students that aims to develop creative solutions to improve school health. The program is delivered by ACT Health in partnership with the ACT Education Directorate.

Other activities

Healthy Schools Network ACT

The Healthy Schools Network ACT aims to actively promote health and wellbeing in ACT primary schools, secondary schools and early childhood settings. The network is a collaboration of local government and not-for-profit organisations and provides a list of available services, programs and resources.
