ACT Government Analytical Laboratory

The ACT Government Analytical Laboratory (ACTGAL) is a multi-disciplinary scientific testing laboratory certified to ISO 9001 and comprising three functional units:

Toxicology and Forensic Chemistry

The Toxicology and Forensic Chemistry Unit provides analytical support for forensic investigations related to drugs and poisons.

The unit supports Coronial investigations, Road and Traffic and various other legislation, and drug treatment programs, providing expert opinion in ACT courts where required.

The unit is accredited to ISO17025 in Forensic Science.

Environmental Chemistry

The Environmental Chemistry unit provides a range of services, including Ambient Air Quality (AAQ) monitoring and performs asbestos identification and fibre counting.

Please use the Asbestos - Request for Analysis form to request analysis of asbestos sample.

The unit is accredited to ISO17025 in Chemical Testing.

Microbiology

The Microbiology unit provides microbiological analysis for food and water to support various ACT regulation activities, as well as investigation of food related illness outbreaks in partnership with the Health Protection Services Environmental Health unit.

The unit is accredited to ISO17025 in Biological Testing.
