The ACT Government Analytical Laboratory (ACTGAL) has three functional units that include Toxicology and Forensic Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry and Microbiology. We currently hold a Quality Management System certified to AS ISO 9001.

Toxicology and Forensic Chemistry

The Toxicology and Forensic Chemistry Unit provides analytical support for forensic investigations about drugs, poisons and expert opinion in ACT courts. It also supports coronial investigations, various legislation and drug treatment programs. It’s accredited to ISO 17025 in Forensic Science.

Environmental Chemistry

The Environmental Chemistry unit provides a range of services, including Ambient Air Quality (AAQ) monitoring, asbestos identification and fibre counting. It’s accredited to ISO 17025 in Chemical Testing.

Microbiology

The Microbiology unit provides microbiological analysis for food, water and various ACT Acts and regulations, as well as food poisoning identification in partnership with Environmental Health. It’s accredited to ISO 17025 in Biological Testing.
