ACT Health Services Plan 2022-2030

The ACT’s population is growing and ageing, and our services are evolving with new technologies and treatments. These changes mean we need a long‑term plan and vision for the future of our healthcare system – to offer person-centred, safe and effective care for everyone.

The ACT’s population is growing and ageing, and our services are evolving with new technologies and treatments. These changes mean we need a long‑term plan and vision for the future of our healthcare system – to offer person-centred, safe and effective care for everyone.

The ACT Health Services Plan (the plan) is an eight-year roadmap for improving the way our health services work together in the ACT. The plan identifies our priorities for developing, investing and redesigning the ACT’s public health services.

The plan sets out the ACT Government’s vision to support our community, those in surrounding regions and our workforce. It applies a territory-wide lens to the ACT public health system, including health services delivered by Canberra Health Services, the ACT Health Directorate, and non-government health services (funded by the ACT and Australian Government).

Collaboration is important to us

Person-centred care

We are making sure our healthcare users are equal partners in how they receive care. The plan outlines how we are putting people at the centre of their healthcare decisions and enabling them to work alongside health professionals to achieve the best outcomes. This means our community will help us plan, deliver and monitor safe, quality health services that best meet their needs.

Working with other health services

We want to collaborate with the broader health system in the ACT to achieve the best outcome for our patients. The plan outlines how we will help improve access, integration, health outcomes and deliver a more patient-centred approach to health service.

We will take action and make improvements

We recognise there are opportunities to try, test and learn new ways of doing things to improve and integrate our health services. We will continue to build on what is working well in our public health system and look for opportunities to develop our services including:

  • Addressing key areas of service demand and reform.
  • Improving the journey and experience when transitioning through different health care services to make it easier for these transitions to occur.
  • Reinforcing the ACT’s role as a local, territory and regional service provider.
  • Strengthening core ACT Government-funded clinical support services.

Keeping it living

The ACT Health Services Plan will be a living document with regular progress reviews that will be published every 2 years. This will help make sure our services are flexible, inclusive and responsive to the needs of our community.

More information

In 2021 we released the draft territory-wide health services plan. The initial draft, and extensive consultation has informed our approach for this ACT Health Services Plan.
