Murray Valley Encephalitis (MVE)

This update is to provide information about the possibility of people contracting mosquito borne infections, particularly Murray Valley Encephalitis (MVE), when travelling in NSW or Victoria.

The risk of transmission of MVE to people travelling to affected areas of NSW or Victoria may have been increased by recent flooding and warm temperatures.

ACT residents travelling to flooded areas of NSW or Victoria should be aware of the need to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes, which can also transmit other illnesses such as Ross River fever.
