Welcome to

Kids at Play

Kids at Play is all about advancing the health and wellbeing of ACT children aged 0-5 years, by promoting healthy eating and physical activity to families and the early childhood sector.

Breastfeeding - good for baby, good for mum

  • Exclusively feeding breast milk to babies is recommended from birth to six months of age.
  • Breastfeeding has many health benefits for babies and mothers.

Tap into water everyday

  • Tap water is the ideal everyday drink for children one year and older to promote healthy bodies and teeth.
  • Provide tap water every day and limit sweet drinks such as juice, cordial and soft drinks to occasional use.

Active play everyday

  • Active play every day is important for children.
  • Encourage your children to dance, run, jump, throw, sweep and push or pull suitably sized objects every day.
  • Active children are healthier, stronger, and more socially interactive and confident.

Switch to play everyday

  • Encourage your children to reduce screen-time (e.g. TV, videos, computers) and switch to play.
  • Play can include building blocks, puzzles, dress ups and craft activities that are age appropriate.

Munch into veg and fruit everyday

  • Young children need a variety of vegetables and fruit every day to grow and develop.
  • Offer your children different vegetables and fruits every day so that they can learn to eat well their whole life.
