About ACT Pathology

ACT Pathology employee

ACT Pathology is a business unit of Canberra Hospital, providing specialist pathology services to both public and private patients of:

  • Canberra Hospital;
  • Calvary Hospital;
  • National Capital Private Hospital;
  • Specialists and general practitioners;
  • Nursing homes;
  • Veteran's organisations; and
  • the general community.

NATA-accredited laboratories

Diagnostic services are provided from two well-equipped, NATA-accredited laboratories that operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week:

  • Canberra Hospital (main laboratory); and
  • Calvary Laboratory

Many of our pathologists also have appointments with the The ANU Medical School, and we have close interrelationships with the John Curtin School of Medical Research - both part of the Australian National University.

We are committed to the support of GP education and have established Endorsed Provider status for the provision of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) through the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).

A pathology service committed to excellence

We're committed to providing first-rate pathology services to Canberra Hospital, the local community and the region.

ACT Pathology employs highly qualified and experienced staff, with Pathologists covering all disciplines. Our staff are experienced registered nurses and technical officers who have been trained in blood collection techniques for adults, newborns and children. They can provide patients with information relating to pathology testing procedures.

Diagnostic services are provided from two accredited laboratories. ACT Pathology has a dedicated courier service for the collection of specimens and delivery of reports throughout Canberra. Specimens are referred to other major hospitals around Australia for specialised testing for tests not performed at ACT Pathology laboratories.
