ACT Action Plan for Mental Health Promotion, Prevention and Early Intervention 2006-2008

The ACT Action Plan for Mental Health Promotion Prevention and Early Intervention (PPEI) has been developed because of the recognised need to accompany clinical treatment of mental illness with actions which promote wellbeing and resilience across the community, and reduce the likelihood and severity of illness.

The framework for the PPEI Plan has been provided by several local and national documents:

This focus in the ACT strategy reflects the direction of recent national mental health reform, particularly the National Action Plan for Promotion, Prevention and Early Intervention for Mental Health, 2000 and National Mental Health Plan 2003 – 2008

The PPEI Plan will support and interact with the aims of other ACT Government plans including the Canberra Social Plan , the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Family Wellbeing Plan , the ACT Women’s Plan and the ACT Children’s Plan .

The ACT Mental Health Promotion, Prevention and Early Intervention Plan is based on three principles:

  • Mental health promotion is everybody's business,
  • Understanding mental health is everybody's responsibility,
  • Community mental health promotion is part of everybody's role.
