About the board
The ACT Physiotherapists Board (the Board) is a statutory body established to regulate physiotherapy practice in the public interest. The Board is established by section 24 of the Health Professionals Act 2004 (the Act).
What we do
The Board:
- registers suitably qualified physiotherapists to enable them to practise in the Territory;
- disciplines physiotherapists after due inquiry on specific grounds through suspension or cancellation of registration, cautioning or reprimanding the physiotherapist; ordering that the physiotherapist seek or undergo medical treatment or counselling; imposing conditions on the physiotherapists registration, ordering the physiotherapist to complete specified educational courses; ordering the physiotherapist to report on his/her medical practice; or ordering the physiotherapist to seek and follow advice in relation to the management of his/her medical practice;
- considers complaints against registered physiotherapists and reviewing accounts for fees for physiotherapy services; and
- undertakes monitoring of the professional conduct of the physiotherapy profession in the ACT.
Board functions
- To protect the public and ensure maintenance of professional standards by being accessible and accountable in administering the ACT Health Professionals Act 2004;
- To register qualified physiotherapists who wish to practise in the ACT
- Conduct enquiries as required, to ensure professional standards of practice are met
- Provide advice to government agencies and interest groups
