The Equipment Loan Service operates an extensive fleet of loan equipment for short-term use by people in their own home.
Typical clients include people:

Service access
Subject to stock availability, ELS staff are able to issue equipment on the basis of referral from an approved health professional.
Consumers wishing to access the service will need to discuss their equipment loan needs with their health professional.
If you don't have a current health professional and/or need advice on approved prescriber's, please contact ELS on (02) 6207 0658, CHI on 6207 9977 or the Independent Living Centre on (02) 6205 1900 for further advice.
Eligibility
ACT residents with a medical condition and/or or disability and who require short-term access to the Equipment Loan Service.
Some people may be ineligible if they are recipients of certain Commonwealth funded care packages, for example EACH and CACP.
ACT residents have priority of access to available stock and all requests for loans, whether from an ACT or interstate resident, are subject to equipment availability.
Interstate visitors
Wherever possible Health Directorate supports the temporary loan of equipment to interstate visitors who have a temporary or permanent medical condition and/or disability and who require short-term access to equipment to facilitate their visit to the ACT.
This includes people visiting relatives in the ACT, interstate students visiting the ACT on school excursions, one-off events where equipment is needed to provide access to a visitor with a disability etc.
Restrictions to loan access by interstate visitors apply during peak periods (see Peak Period Exceptions heading below).
Peak Period Exceptions
- Access to equipment by interstate visitors is restricted during peak periods such as Christmas, Easter and declared public health emergencies, as ACT residents being discharged from hospital have priority of access.
- During these periods interstate visitors requiring temporary equipment are requested to make commercial hire arrangements.
- Information on commercial hire options for an extensive range of equipment can be obtained by clicking on the PDF icon below.
